SALEM SRI RAJAGANAPATHI
The King of Salem city providing rajayogams to his devotees is our SRI RAJAGANAPATHI. We can always offer our prayers to this great god who is always providing all best and good things in life to his devotees.
HISTORY: This temple is associate temple of Sri Sugavaneshwarar Temple, Salem. Lord Sugavaneshwara has blessed Sugabrammarishi the son of Ved Vyas. When a special car was designed and made for Lord Sugavaneshwara this Lord Ganapathy was also placed at the point where the car would start its ride. This Lord Ganapathy became famous due to his supreme powers in atracting devotees and removing their problems. Subsequently a separate temple was built for Lord Rajaganapathi in this place called Theradi. When Lord Sugavaneshwara (Lord Siva) is brought to the car for Vaikasi Visagam, it is for Sri Rajaganapathi that the first pooja would be performed. Lord Rajaganapathi is postured with Angusam, Pasam in his hands and with Abaya, Varatha muthras and with Tusk in one hand and Modagam in the other hand. Like in other Ganapathi Temples the Mooshika (Rat) is not seen opposite to the Lord as in other temples because here the Lord Rajaganapathi is in a sitting posture on Mooshika.
RAJAYOGAM: The Lord Rajaganapathi has a unique record of guarding his devotees and providing them good health and wealth. Specifically those seeking selection to leadership/top brass post are rewarded with the same if they sincerely offer their prayers to Lord Rajaganapathi. The unemployed also get good employment opportunity on seeking the Lord's blessings. The devotees make a wish before the God and on completion of their wish they make a special devotion to the God by offering Raja Alangaram and Red or white silk dhotis or Santhana alangaram and thus thank the God for his blessings.
VINAYAGA SATHURTHI CELEBRATIONS: Celebrations for Vinayaga chathurthi go on for over 13 days and the Lord would adorn 12 different alangarams as Vallaba Ganapathi, Siddhi Ganapathi, Lakshmi Ganapathi, Kubera Ganapathi, Ganapathi doing Sivalinga pooja, Kumaraganapathi etc. and it is a great sight to see the lord during these 12 days. During the vinayaga Chathurthi and Tamil New Year a special darshan of lord adorned in Thanga Kavasam (Gold Kavasam) is the highlight of the Chathurthi celebrations.
On the 13th day with special homam and abhishekam Vasantha Urchava is carried out for the Lord. Special poojas are also performed to the Lord on Sankatahara Sathurthis.
It is not a myth or aberration to speak about the great Lord and if you visit Salem never forget to come to the Sannithi of Sri Rajaganapathi and to seek his blessings. This temple is an associate temple of Sri Sugavaneshwara Temple in Salem and is located in Salem City Bus stand area and the specific place is called "Thermutti" or Theradi.
